心理学

Consistent with the 佩因大学 mission, the 心理学 Department provides opportunities for students to obtain quality education through the acquisition of 知识, and development of psychosocial 技能 while instilling in all students an appreciation for and sensitivity to ethical and aesthetic values. Our commitment to classroom teaching and learning characteristic of a liberal arts education is complemented by a commitment to scholarly inquiry characteristic of a research institution. Classroom experience is enhanced by practical and laboratory experience in our newly renovated psychology research laboratory.

Students are given ample opportunities for internships and research experience that affords you competitive entry into graduate and professional schools, or entry into the workforce through collaborations with local and national institutions and/or organizations. Our dedicated faculty is committed to excellence and is here to facilitate students' experiences in every way possible.

The 心理学 Department offers a Bachelor of Arts degree in 心理学 and is organized to provide students the means by which to earn the degree by emphasis in one of the following three options:

Counseling Emphasis Designed for students who will pursue careers in clinical psychology, counseling and other areas related to mental health, academia and research, as well as professional employment.
Experimental 心理学 Emphasis This focus area is designed for advanced careers in research, physiological psychology, 神经心理学, 和学术界. In addition to the core 心理学 major curriculum, students study areas such as experimental design, sensation and perception and physiological psychology.
General 心理学 Concentration This concentration is designed for careers in academia, health science research, and/or professional employment. Along with the core 心理学 major curriculum, students select to study additional courses from the Counseling and Experimental emphasis.

A minor concentration in psychology may be completed by students majoring in other disciplines.

The 佩因大学 Department of 心理学 provides students with a comprehensive body of 知识 related to the science of behavior and mental processes for the purpose of enhancing commitments to behavioral science and mental health. We aim to evolve the frontiers of psychological science through research designed to enhance the college family; and fulfill the obligations of service to the community as a whole. Upon completion of the psychology program, students will be prepared for graduate or professional education or entry into occupations which utilize 知识 of human behavior.

The department's long term vision is to increase the number of African American behavioral scientists. 为此目的, the curriculum emphasis on psychology's scientific foundation necessitates integrating theoretical and applied components of psychological behavior. Our Students are prepared to develop the character, 技能, 知识, and commitment to engage in community service in order to address the both the etiology and prevention of behavioral problems.

Experimental 心理学

Program designed for advanced careers in research, physiological psychology, 神经心理学, 和学术界.

Through its emphasis on eliminating disparities in the area of the behavioral sciences, the 佩因大学心理学 Department has been selected to serve as a partner with the US Department of Health & Human Services Office of Minority Health's National Partnership for Action (NPA) to End Health Disparities. This partnership is reflective of two components of the 佩因大学 Strategic Goals.
